Indian Railways is gearing up to revolutionize long-distance train travel with the introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. Scheduled for launch by the financial year 2025-26, these new-age trains are expected to combine speed, safety, and luxury, making overnight journeys more comfortable for passengers across India.

According to ET Now, the railways will roll out 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, equipped with premium features and interiors designed to international standards.


Expected Launch Timeline and Testing

The first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset, developed by Wellhas already been delivered to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.

Speaking to ET Now, U Subba RaoGeneral Manager of ICF, confirmed that oscillation and safety trials will begin from November 15lasting about two months. Once certified, the trains will be cleared for commercial service in 2025.


What Makes These Sleeper Trains Special?

These trains are not just regular upgrades—they are being designed with passenger comfort, safety, and aesthetics in mind. Each train will consist of 16 coaches and accommodate 823 passengers across First-Class AC, 2-Tier ACand 3-Tier AC configurations.

Key features include:

  • Austenitic stainless-steel body for strength and durability
  • Crash buffers and couplers to enhance safety in emergencies
  • Noise-reduced cabins and plush interiors for a comfortable experience
  • Modern lighting, infotainment systems, and bio-toilets

Proposed Routes: Where Will They Run?

While the Indian Railways has not finalized the exact routes, early reports suggest the first services may run on high-demand corridors like New Delhi–Pune or New Delhi–Srinagar. These routes have been selected to test the trains’ long-haul efficiency and gather passenger feedback before broader deployment.
