Police arrested a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of assaulting an officer on Wednesday, when "serious disorder" was reported in Salford. On June 11, groups of youths reportedly set fire to vehicles and threw bricks at officers. Authorities said the incident also involved cars being stolen and numerous reports of anti-social behaviour in the city's Lower Broughton Road area.
Superintendent Marcus Noden added: "This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and we took robust and appropriate action. We are aware of speculation online that this incident is linked to immigration, this is categorically incorrect." Greater Manchester Police warned that tensions in the area "remain heightened" and said "robust plans" were in place to counter any further incidents.
