Kajol opens up about parenting Nysa and Yug with Ajay Devgn: 'They are very much their own people'
Kajol , who tied the knot with actor Ajay Devgn in 1999, is a proud mother to two children—Nysa and Yug. While she rarely shies away from celebrating her family on social media, the actress recently opened up about her parenting journey, the bond her kids share with her and Ajay, and how motherhood changed her.
When asked if her children are more attached to her or Ajay, Kajol responded with her trademark wit and warmth, saying, “They are both my children, I want to tell you that. Ajay Devgn is stage pe nahin baitha hua hai. Bata du. So they are both, honestly, they are my kids, they are his kids, they are our kids. And I am very proud to say that they are very much their own people.”
'I am Yug': Her son's diplomatic answer stole her heart
Sharing an adorable anecdote from a conversation with her son Yug, Kajol recalled asking him who he wanted to resemble more—her or Ajay. She told Pinkvilla, “I remember asking Yug, ‘Who do you want to look like? Me or papa? Tell me fast.’ He looked at me like I was holding a gun to his head and very calmly said, ‘I look like Yug. I am Yug.’”
The Maa actress said that moment summed up her children’s individuality perfectly. “I'm very, very happy to say that I've brought up two individuals who have their own personalities, who I hope I’ve taught to think for themselves. That’s been my biggest teaching as a parent.”
On returning home: ‘I am only mom’
When Kajol walks back into her home after work, the transformation is instant. “Mein jab bhi ghar pahunchti hu toh my kids are more like ‘mumma’, there's the whining and the ‘why didn’t you do this and why didn’t you do that’ that starts up. Once I see them, I am only mom. There’s no other character I can play at that point.”
Reflecting on the moment she first became a mother with the birth of Nysa in 2003, Kajol said, “When Nysa was born, I felt like that’s one exam I can’t fail. I think my real-life performance has taken more out of me than any film will ever in my life demand of me.”
Kajol is currently promoting her upcoming horror-mythology film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn. The film is slated for release on June 27.
