Thai police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old Chinese national for illegally operating high-end tours around Bangkok.
The man promoted his services online, offering Chinese tourists exclusive dining experiences and private transportation. He acted as both the driver and tour guide, according to Khaosod English newspaper.
The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on foreigners working in occupations reserved for Thai nationals, particularly tour guides.
Officers had observed the man leading convoys of three luxury vehicles, escorting Chinese tourists to prominent sites including the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and Tha Chang Pier.
Police apprehended him near Tha Chang Pier on Maharaj Road after confirming his involvement in unauthorized tour operations.
The suspect had entered Thailand on the 5 years multiple-entry Elite Visa. He now faces two charges: operating a tour business without a license under the Tourism Business and Guide Act, and working without a valid permit under the Alien Working Act.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Thai law prohibits foreigners from working as tour guides or independently bringing tourists into the country, Nation Thailand reported.
Violators may face fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 baht ($145–$1,450).
