Overview of Suzuki Baleno Testing

In addition to the Dzire model, Maruti Suzuki has conducted crash tests on the new Suzuki Baleno. Both the 2-airbag and 6-airbag versions were evaluated to assess the safety of adult and child occupants during collisions. The Baleno has gained popularity among consumers, but it has faced criticism for its lightweight design, which makes it prone to damage in minor accidents. Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of the vehicle, particularly since a 2-airbag variant is still available.

Adult Occupant Crash Test Ratings

The Suzuki Baleno achieved a notable score of 24.04 out of 32 in the adult occupant safety category, with an overall score of approximately 34.81 out of 49. The test indicated that while the protection for the driver's chest and thighs was marginal, the leg protection was deemed adequate. For the front passenger, the overall body protection was adequate, with good ratings for head protection. The airbags contributed to a good rating for head and neck safety.

Side Impact Test Results

In the side moveable barrier test, the Baleno provided adequate protection for the neck and head, while chest protection was rated as marginal. The results for the side pole impact test showed good overall passenger safety. These ratings apply to various models, including Sigma 1.2 ISS 5MT, Delta 1.2 ISS 5MT, Zeta 1.2 ISS 5MT, Alpha 1.2 ISS 5MT, and others. The tested vehicle was equipped with frontal airbags, belt pretensioners, and Isofix on the rear outboard seats.

Child Occupant Safety Ratings

The child occupant safety ratings were recorded at 16.81 out of a maximum of 24, with a CRS installation score of 12. The vehicle assessment score was 6.00 out of 13.

6 Airbag Version Performance

The 6-airbag variant of the Baleno was also tested, achieving an adult occupant safety score of 26.52 out of 32, resulting in a 4-star rating. In terms of child occupant protection, it scored 34.81 out of 49, earning a 3-star rating. This version includes frontal airbags, side head curtain airbags, side chest airbags, and side pelvis airbags, along with Isofix seats in the rear.

Detailed Adult Occupant Safety Analysis

The vehicle underwent two significant collision tests, including a Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, where it scored 11.54 out of 16. The protection for the driver's chest and thighs was marginal, while leg and neck protection were rated as adequate and good, respectively. For the front passenger, overall protection was adequate, with good neck safety. In the Side Moveable Deformable Barrier Test, the Baleno scored 14.99 out of 16, with adequate chest protection and good head and trunk safety.

In the child occupant safety category, the vehicle scored 34.81 out of 49, with a dynamic score of 16.81 out of 24, a CRS installation score of 12.00, and a vehicle assessment score of 6.00.
