TV actress Shubhangi Atre, best known for portraying Angoori Bhabhi in the long-running sitcom 'Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain', has spoken out about the loss of her ex-husband, Piyush Poorey, who passed away in April this year following a prolonged illness. The couple had finalised their divorce merely two months before his death.
In an emotional interview with a member of Viral Bhayani’s team, Shubhangi spoke about Piyush’s deteriorating health, revealing that doctors had warned them early on about the dangers of his alcohol dependency.
“It was very unfortunate,” she said, visibly holding back tears. “Doctors had told him long ago that if he didn’t change his lifestyle, this might happen. So, I knew that it might happen, but I had no idea that it would happen so early.”
Despite the painful circumstances, Shubhangi chose to speak of Piyush with compassion and grace. “I want to remember him for all the good things. I loved him, and I might never forget about that,” she shared. “I want to remember Piyush in good memories, and even today I say, keep blessing Ashi (their daughter). Keep guiding both of us, and that’s it.”
Shubhangi and Piyush tied the knot in 2003 and had a daughter in 2005. The two parted ways in 2022 after 19 years of marriage, and their divorce was officially finalised earlier this year. Piyush had been battling liver cirrhosis for some time and succumbed to the illness in 2025.
Shubhangi, who has also starred in shows like 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay', 'Kasturi', and 'Chidiya Ghar', took over the role of Angoori Bhabhi after Shilpa Shinde’s exit from 'Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain', and continues to be one of the show’s most beloved characters.
