Filmmaker Robert Eggers will write and direct a film for Warner Bros Pictures, A Christmas Caroland also produce the film with Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus.
A ghost story set during Christmas, Eggers adapts author Charles Dickens’ classic for the film.
The 1843 novella of Dickens revolves around the skinflint Ebenezer Scrooge, who learns from the ghost of his late business partner Jacob Marley that he will be visited by three spirits. The novella’s previous screen adaptations include a 2019 British television version featuring Guy Pearce, Stephen Graham, Andy Serkis, Charlotte Riley and Joe Alwyn. It was also adapted as an animated feature in 2009 by Robert Zemeckis, with Jim Carrey playing Scrooge.
With The Northman, The Lighthouse and The Witch as his previous directorial credits, Eggers recently made Nosfer with the star cast of Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Emma Corrin. A remake of the 1922 silent classic, Nosfer was released in theatres last December to a worldwide gross of over $180 million.
