Delhi University gave this information.

An official statement issued by the university administration said that Manusmriti will not be taught in any course of Delhi University. The 'Dharmashastra Adhyayan' course of the Sanskrit department, in which this text was included in the recommended reading material, has been removed from the course list.

Student organizations had opposed the syllabus

This decision was taken when Manusmriti was included in a new Sanskrit course for graduation in the university. Many student organizations and teachers had registered their protest against this. The opponents said that the caste system and anti-women ideas have been promoted in Manusmriti, which is unacceptable in today's social environment.

Why did the university take this decision?

Amidst the controversies, after the demonstration and memorandum of students and teachers, the university administration reconsidered it and decided to remove the controversial text material. The purpose of this step is to maintain an inclusive and progressive academic environment in the university campus.

This text will never be taught

The hope of teaching Manusmriti in Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) has also ended now. The university has ensured that in the future this text will neither be taught nor recommended in any course. This decision is being seen as a policy initiative, which has been taken in the direction of giving priority to diversity, social justice and egalitarian values of the students. This decision of the university has been welcomed by many social organizations and teachers.
