New Delhi: India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill has come under criticism from some fans after being seen with the word “Prince” written on his bat during a recent BCCI photo shoot.

While cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar were called “God” and Virat Kohli “King” by fans, they never used such titles on their gear. However, Gill’s choice to display the word “Prince” on his bat has triggered a debate, with some accusing him of self-glorification.

The images from a pre-series photo session ahead of the India-England Test series showed the word “Prince” printed in small letters on Gill’s bat. This did not go unnoticed by social media users.

One fan even remarked, “It’s been five years since his international debut and he hasn’t scored a century outside India. Does he really deserve the title ‘Prince’?”
