In a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, it has been confirmed that 241 out of 242 individuals on board lost their lives. The sole survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian descent, has been hailed as a miracle, capturing the attention of media outlets worldwide. His survival amidst such a catastrophic event is indeed remarkable, reinforcing the saying that fate can be unpredictable. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Vishwas Kumar in the hospital to check on his condition.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was en route to London, tragically crashed just moments after taking off from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of nearly all passengers and several individuals on the ground. Among the passengers were Vishwas Kumar and his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh. In a matter of 30 seconds, fate separated the two brothers forever. Vishwas Kumar, seated in 11A, managed to escape the wreckage, bloodied and in shock, while his brother, who was seated in 11J, did not survive the incident.
Vishwas Kumar Ramesh is a British citizen originally from Diu, India, and has been residing in the United Kingdom for the past 15 years. He and his brother Ajay Kumar hailed from the villages of Bucharwada and Vankbara in Diu and were among the 15 passengers from these villages on this flight. In London, the brothers operated a garment business and also managed a fishing enterprise back in Diu.
From his hospital bed in Ward B7, Bed Number 11, Vishwas Kumar recounted to his cousin, Dhirendra Somabhai, that the aircraft made a strange noise and felt as if it had stalled in mid-air, followed by the pilot's chilling emergency call—"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!" After that, he has little recollection, except for jumping through a door and later regaining consciousness amidst the wreckage and chaos. In a video that surfaced yesterday, he can be seen injured, repeatedly stating that the plane had exploded. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital, where his condition has stabilized. Reports indicate that his wife resides in London, and he was on his way to join his family.
