'We're very confident, there's massive belief in this team' - David Bedingham on South Africa's position in WTC final (Photo Source: X/Twitter)

The ongoing (WTC 2025) final at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground this week has been a riveting affair as Australia and South Africa have not given each other an inch. While batting hasn't been easy due to the conditions, the bowling has been simply top-notch from both sides.

At the end of Day 2, Australia found themselves at 144/8 in the second innings, having taken a sizeable lead of 218. To put things in perspective, if South Africa are to chase successfully in the fourth innings, it will be the highest innings total in the Test match. There have been just nine Tests in England to date wherein the team batting fourth has posted the highest total of the game - three in wins, the last of which was in Headingley in 2019.

Also, only four 200-plus targets have been chased successfully at Lord's, only once since 2005. Despite the odds, South African batter is hopeful about his team's chances of winning the marquee clash. He said while the game can go either way, there is enough belief in the Proteas side to script history.

“We're very confident. I think the batters will have their plans. But yeah, I think it's an amazing day. And I think when they started batting in their third innings, I think we would have definitely had them or taken them 220-8. So, I think you're very confident and I think there's a massive belief in this team,” said Bedingham in the press conference at the end of the day’s play.

“I think it's just an amazing chance, and I think we're all very, very excited about the opportunity to win. Like I said, it could go either way, but I think us as a team are very, very excited and there's a lot of belief in the dressing room,” he further added.

Bedingham played gritty knock, Rabada claimed Lyon's wicket early

Meanwhile, speaking of the ongoing WTC 2025 final, David Bedingham top-scored for South Africa in the first innings, showing commendable grit and determination during his 45-run knock off 111 balls. Moving on, on Day 3, Australia resumed their second innings in a bid to swell their lead further to make things difficult for the Proteas. However, Kagiso Rabada struck early by trapping Nathan Lyon in front of the wicket while the last pair of Starc and Hazlewood are still at the crease.
