Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades starring Shah Rukh Khan is considered as one of the best films of Indian cinema but for Aamir Khan, its script was boring.
In a recent interview, the superstar revealed that he was offered Swades while he was filming Lagaan with Ashutosh Gowariker but he rejected after hearing a 3-hour narration because he was bored.
Aamir told Zoom TV that the film was then titled Kaveri Amma, which was the name of Mohan Bhargav’s foster mother, “Ashu narrated the story to me when we were making Lagaan. It was titled Kaveri Amma then.”
He added that he liked the story very much and “after Lagaan was released, we made Ashu sit with a writer. AKP was producing it.”

He continued, “When the story was ready, Ashu narrated it to me. It was a three-hour-long narration.
Aamir then shared his honest review with the filmmaker, “I told him, ‘Mai bore ho gya hoon (I am bored). It’s very important for you to hear this reaction’.”
Aamir further told Ashutosh that what he is trying to say through the film “is very correct, noble, and important” but “itne boring tareeke se kahega toh mujhe mazaa nhi aayega (it won’t be fun if you’ll say the story in such a boring manner).”
Aamir later admitted that he hasn’t seen Swades and heard that Shah Rukh Khan was really good in it. He also asked the audience if they liked the film and the response was positive.
Aamir Khan’s Lesser-Known Cameo In SwadesWhile Aamir Khan found the script boring and rejected it and because he hasn’t seen the film, perhaps, that’s why he is unaware of his interesting cameo in the film.
For those unaware, the sequence right before the iconic National Award winning song “Yeh Tara Woh Tara” features Shah Rukh Khan’s Mohan Bhargav watching a film on a projector with the village.
The film in question is Aamir Khan’s uncle, Nasir Hussain’s 1973 blockbuster Yaadon Ki Baaraat starring Dharmendra.
And the visuals in Swades features the title song which has a roughly 7-8 year-old Aamir Khan playing the younger version of the film’s third hero Tariq Khan.

So Amir Khan really thought that he rejected #Swades but he was actually in it- that too from his debut movie as a child actor, made by his uncle Nasir Hussain- Yaadon Ki Baraat 🫠 So boring I guess 😋

Added the curtain falling scene to reveal SRK only for the effect 😉 pic.twitter.com/rOhxy0X9Z9

Interestingly, it was Aamir Khan who gave the muhurat clap of Swades.
