A heartbreaking plane crash occurred on Thursday in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This flight was flying from Ahmedabad to London. The plane crashed just 5 minutes after takeoff. There were 242 people on board this flight. Now the investigating agencies can gather important information related to the accident by searching for the black box of the plane. Meanwhile, let us know what a black box is and how it survives destruction even after an accident.

The Black Box is a state-of-the-art electronic device installed in the aircraft, which records important information related to the aircraft during any flight. After a flight crash, with the help of this device, the investigating agencies find out the causes of the accident.

What does the black box do?

There are two main types of black boxes in the aircraft, flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. The flight data recorder records about 25,000 types of technical information such as aircraft speed, altitude, direction, engine performance, auto-pilot status, and radar system. At the same time, the cockpit voice recorder records the conversation between the pilot and co-pilot, cockpit alarms, communication with the control tower, and any kind of sounds.

Helps in finding the cause of the accident

When a plane crashes, the priority of the investigating agencies is to find the black box. This is because the recording of the black box is necessary for investigation from the very beginning and much important information can be gathered from it.

From this, information about the last few hours of flight can be extracted. What the pilot said before the accident, what decisions he took, all this is recorded. It helps in confirming technical faults, human error, or external reasons like bad weather, bird hits, etc.

Why does the black box not get destroyed?
No, the black box is made with special "crash-proof" technology. It can withstand a temperature of 1100°C and shocks up to 3400 G. It can keep the data safe even after being submerged in water for 30 days. It also has an underwater locator beacon, which sends a signal when it falls into water. Therefore, it is almost impossible for the black box to be destroyed after a plane crash.

Why is the black box not black?
The color of the black box is bright orange, so that it can be easily found in the debris after an accident. It is called 'black box' only as a name.
