Ahmedabad plane crash: The horrific aircraft accident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday, June 12, has shook the entire country. Air India aircraft from Ahmedabad to London crashed AI-171. The aircraft had 242 people, out of which 241 died. 1 person survived. The aircraft had 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The dead include passengers from India, Britain and Canada. The accident was so severe that it is difficult to identify many bodies. The reason for this is that many bodies have been badly burnt. They are not being identified. In such a situation, it is important to know why it is difficult to identify burnt bodies? When many people die in a major accident or fire and their bodies are badly burnt, the biggest challenge is to identify them. The bodies of many dead have also been badly burnt in this plane crash. It is difficult to identify them. In such a situation, after the announcement of the Union Minister, the DNA test of the people will be done. According to Cleveland Clinic, it is difficult to identify bodies after such an incident. The bodies are usually identified with face, clothes, jewelry or body scars, but when the body is completely burnt, all these methods become useless. In such a situation, DNA check becomes the most reliable and accurate method.

Why is it difficult to identify burnt dead bodies,

According to the report of TV 9, Dr. BN Mishra of the Forensic Medicine Department at Deendayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital in Delhi says that burning in the fire destroys body tissue, skin, facial identifiable organs, fingers and other external identity. Many times the body burns to such an extent that the bones break down and disintegrate. In such a situation, it is difficult to identify the body. In such a situation, scientific and forensic teams come forward which identify bodies through scientific methods.

How does DNA check help?

Dr. Mishra explains that DNA or deoxyeribonucleic acid is a type of code found in our body cells. Which is different for every person. In this test, the DNA present in it is taken out by taking any part of the body (such as bone, teeth, hair root etc.). It is then matched with DNA of family members. If DNA samples match, it becomes easy to identify the body.

Can DNA survive even after the fire?

Dr. Mishra explains that the body can burn completely in the fire, but these organs are saved from which DNA samples are taken. Teeth- The layer of teeth is hard and they can be safe to a large extent even in high temperatures. Bones- Especially in long and thick bones, the inner marrow (bone marrow) can save DNA.

How long would DNA test be done?

Dr. Mishra explains that DNA testing is a complex and sensitive process. It usually takes a few hours to take samples. After which it can take 3 to 10 days to extract, analyze and compare DNA in the lab. In some cases it may take two to three weeks.
