Yograj Singh, a former Indian fast bowler, said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might have played Test cricket for another five years. Rohit had retired from Test cricket on May 7, while Kohli did so on May 12.

Shubman Gill was named the captain of the team after the two cricketing legends said goodbye to cricket's longest form. The 25-year-old became the fifth-youngest India Test captain, and he will begin his reign during the tough five-match series against England, starting on Friday, June 20.

Yograj believed that Rohit and Kohli were overreacting and could have waited for the baton to be handed over to Shubman. The father of India's legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also disclosed that he had given Rohit a tip of waking up early at 5 AM and jogging 20 kilometres to remain fit.

"Virat and Rohit shouldn’t have retired from Tests. I told Rohit to get up at 5 AM and run for 20 km to keep himself fit. Virat and Rohit can still play for another 5 years in Test cricket. They should have played. They should be there to see that the baton is passed to the youngsters. The baton has not been passed, it has been thrown to Gill,"

In addition to this, Yograj Singh further stated that he had attempted to convince his son not to retire from international cricket in 2019 and assured that he would make him the captain of the Indian team.

"Even when Yuvraj was retiring, I promised him that I will help him become India captain and that we will throw everybody out, but he quit," Yograj said.

While that is happening, a fairly young and inexperienced Indian team is to play England in a five-match Test series. The first Test begins at Headingley, Leeds. Though was appointed as India's 37th Test captain, hot-headed wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was made his deputy. The two will have to work together and lead the youngsters around them so that they can perform to their level best in the United Kingdom.
