The UK's have surged in popularity during recent years, and have flocked to picturesque spots during the peak summer months. Last year, 67% of Brits said they planned to holiday in the UK for convenience, as well as to , according to experts at . They add that 34% did at least two domestic trips.
But this popularity means some traditional seaside hotspots have become severely overcrowded. Luckily, experts have highlighted some "off-the-beaten-track" British coastal destinations, where travellers can "escape the masses and reconnect with nature".
These places boast "lesser-known beaches, coves and clifftop landmarks" that offer "raw beauty". Lannacombe Beach in , for example, is described as "wild, wave-lashed and wonderfully under the radar". Simply Sea Views says it can be found "down a winding single-track lane", adding: "With no shops, no crowds, and no distractions, it's a quiet spot to unwind and reconnect with nature.
"With a combination of stunning green hills and beachy shoreline, it's perfect for peaceful picnics, coastal walks to neighbouring coves like Start Point for jaw-dropping views, or stay in the nearby village East Prawle, visiting Pig's Nose Inn for some live music."
Experts then list a few things that are good to know. A small car park at the end of the single-track lane has limited spaces, and fills quickly in summer.
Dogs are welcome all year round, and you can stay nearby at quaint cottages in East Prawle or Salcombe, for an average of £120-£180 per night.
Visit South Devon says the beach is the West Country at its "most rugged, wild and unspoilt".
It added: "Although it's a small beach in comparison to some of the more expansive beaches further up the coast, Lannacombe is perfect if you want to leave the crowds behind and experience some of the best scenery in the area.
"There's a small car park just behind the beach with room for up to 15 cars, so you'll need to get there early to bag a space, but if you leave it too late, there is further parking just a short stroll away.
"You can bring dogs to Lannacombe beach at any time of year, making this an ideal spot for the whole family.
"Lannacombe is one of South Devon's quieter beaches, tucked away from the crowds of holidaymakers that descend on the larger, more commercial beaches."
