The South African team is very close to creating history. The team has dominated the World Test Championship final against Australia. The South African team is just 69 runs away from victory and has eight wickets left. In such a situation, Test may get a new champion this year. New Zealand won the title in 2021 and Australia in 2023. However, the Indian team was a part of the final in both the previous finals. After two defeats, India had expressed its desire to host the World Test Championship final. However, India's hopes seem to be getting a setback. It has come to light in some media reports that the ICC is not ready to hold the final in India. The ICC is also going to sign an agreement with England for the window of the next three finals.

ICC in support of England

According to a report by Telegraph UK, the WTC final is unlikely to be shifted out of England despite the support of former India captains Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins. According to the report, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the England Cricket Board (ECB) of its intention to host the finals in England for the next three windows. He said, 'England Cricket is close to agreeing with the ICC to host the next three World Test Championship finals despite India expressing its desire to host this showpiece event.'

WTC started in 2019
The World Test Championship (WTC) started in 2019. During this, teams play Test series among themselves in a two-year cycle. The top two teams based on points percentage clash in the final. Now the next Test Championship final will be played in 2027. The BCCI had expressed its desire to hold the final matches in India after losing the 2023 final to the ICC.

The finals of the next three editions will be in England.
The current ICC President is Jay Shah, who has also held the post of Secretary in BCCI. Jay Shah was the BCCI Secretary when India expressed its desire for the final. According to the report, ICC stakeholders have discussed this, but they did not seem to agree to hold the final in India. Now England is likely to get approval to host the finals of the next three editions (2027, 2029, and 2031). The ICC can announce this in its next annual conference in Singapore in July.

Can be approved in Singapore
The report states that this decision will be approved in the ICC's annual conference in Singapore next month. At the same time, the ECB will start planning for the 2027 WTC final immediately after the final between Australia and South Africa ends. Despite hosting three finals of the World Test Championship, England has failed to reach the final in the last three editions.
