In a dramatic finale at Lord's, South Africa won their first ICC World Test Championship title as they overpowered Australia by five wickets in a nail-biting encounter that lasted only three days. Having been bowled out for 138 in the first innings in reply to Australia's 212, South Africa were presented with a difficult target of 282 in the fourth innings.

 

But Aiden Markram stepped up to the plate with a record 136, leading the pursuit with coolness. Temba Bavuma's integral 66 and David Bedingham's classy finishing stroke added to South Africa's stranglehold on the last day. 

 

Pat Cummins' first-innings 6-wicket haul and Starc's second-innings strikes proved futile as South Africa's fourth-innings determination outshone Australia's bowling artillery, guaranteeing a landmark victory at the Home of Cricket
