has revealed how he escaped the disaster just seconds before the aircraft exploded. , 40, was on the plane seated in 11A, the Hindustan Times reports, and has been left with only minor injuries. He was travelling back to London with his brother, who was also on the flight.

Just after taking off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, flight 171 exploded in a fireball after crashing to the ground. 242 people were onboard, including 53 British nationals, and were en route to Gatwick airport. Air India has confirmed that Viswash was the only survivor on board Flight 171. It says 229 passengers and 12 crew tragically died. The sole survivor, who is receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, has shared his experience of the crash, and how he survived.

Viswash told DD India that he "just walked out" of the aircraft moments before it exploded, yet admitted he "can't explain" everything that he saw.

He explained that he managed to escape the disaster after his side of the plane fell onto the ground floor of a building where he forced his way out of the plane through a broken door. Viswash was then immediately assisted by locals and taken to a hospital.

"The emergency door was broken, my seat is broken," he said.

Asked if he escaped the plane by jumping out, he said: "I am not jumping. I just walked out innit."

"It's a miracle," he said.

Shortly after the crash, Vishwash was filmed walking away from the horrific scene.

Vishwash was in India for a few days to visit family. He has reportedly suffered "impact injuries" on his chest, eyes and feet. He told the Hindustan Times: "When I got up, there were bodies all around me.

"I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital."

Vishwash told DD India that he was "feeling better than yesterday" and that the "treatment is going good".

His doctor said: "He is having minor injuries only. He has some abrasions over his left forearm and swelling over left eyelid and over the eyes.

"Chest and abdomen is clear, no lung fractures present. The patient is vitally stable."

According to his relatives, Vishwash is now expected to be released in the next 48 hours.
