PATHANAMTHITTA: Health Minister Veena George has extended unwavering government support to the grieving family of Ranjitha Gopakumaran Nair, the nurse from Pullad who tragically perished in the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Cutting short her by-election campaign in Malappuram, the minister visited Ranjitha’s residence in Pullad. There, she met Ranjitha’s cancer-stricken mother, Thulasi, and her two children, Induchoodan and Idhika. “This is a heartbreaking loss. The government stands with the family in every possible way,” said Veena.
Ranjitha, on long leave from her post as a nursing officer at Kozhencherry District Hospital, had been working in the UK for the past eight months. She was returning after a short visit to complete procedures for renewing her government employment when tragedy struck. The 39-year-old was the family’s sole source of income.
The minister confirmed that DNA identification procedures are underway in Ahmedabad and assured that the body will be brought home at the earliest. Arrangements are also being made for her siblings to travel to Ahmedabad to aid in the formalities.
Veena condemned a derogatory social media comment made by a Kasaragod Deputy Tehsildar against Ranjitha, calling it “inhuman” and stating that society will not tolerate such actions.
MLA K.U. Janeesh Kumar also accompanied her during the visit. Veena George reaffirmed that the family’s immediate and future needs will be met through coordinated state support.
