The journey of the holy Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand, which symbolizes faith and reverence, drowned in the ink of sorrows for a family of Bijnor. On Sunday morning, a helicopter crash in the Gaurikund area of Rudraprayag took seven lives, including Vinod Devi (66), wife of senior advocate Dharampal Singh of Bijnor and his grandson. The accident happened when the pilgrims were returning to Guptkashi after visiting Kedarnath. This tragedy not only broke a family, but also spread the shadow of mourning throughout Bijnor.

The journey of faith, which remained incomplete

Dharampal Singh’s family was full of enthusiasm for the Kedarnath Yatra. Along with Vinod Devi and Trishti, Dharampal, her grandson Ishaan and grandson Gauransh were also on this holy journey. But the rules of the helicopter company divided the family into two separate helicopters. Dharampal pleaded to travel together, but his point remained unheard. This decision came out as the biggest grief for him. Dharampal, Ishaan and Gauransh reached Guptkashi safe, but never returned to Vinod Devi and Tashti’s helicopter.

When the second helicopter did not land for a long time, the family’s restlessness started increasing. After some time, news came that the helicopter crashed between Gaurikund and Sonprayag. On hearing this, all the expectations of the family collapsed. The administration confirmed a few hours later that all seven people in the helicopter died on the spot.

Weeds in Bijnor, broken expectations

As soon as the news of the accident reached Bijnor and Nagina, there was chaos in Dharampal Singh’s house. The family left for Kedarnath crying. There was silence on the walls of the house, and there was a flood of tears in every eye. Vinod Devi, who was the axis of the family, and satisfaction, who was all the dear, now remained only in memories.

Dharampal Singh said that Trishti was top and very fickle in studies. She had dreamed of narrating stories of Kedarnath Yatra to her friends. Vinod Devi’s religious nature and dedication to the family was an inspiration to everyone. But a moment snatched everything away. Dharampal said, “Tashti was the noor of my eyes, and this house is deserted without humor. This emptiness will never be filled.”

Question behind the accident, who will answer?

This accident raises many questions. After all, what was the lack of safety check of the helicopter? Could this tragedy be avoided by allowing the family to travel together? Family members say that the preliminary information from the helicopter company and the administration further increased their grief. The incident has also questioned the safety of the helicopter services of Kedarnath Yatra.
