Dharmendra himself has mentioned this. He said that Amitabh Bachchan used to sit near him every day and Dharmendra Ramesh used to talk to Sippy at that time.

Dharmendra recommended to take Amitabh Bachchan in the film Sholay from Sippy

Dharmendra recently revealed this during a conversation with ANI. When asked about the film Sholay, he said, “Yes, I recommended him. I did not say it anywhere but I (Amitabh Bachchan) tried to give him a role. He used to come to meet me and used to sit near me. I told Ramesh Sippy ji that the voice of this new boy is very good and he will do a lot of work. I liked his work. So I liked his skills. Said.”

Shatrughan Sinha was offered role
People liked the role of Amitabh Bachchan in Sholay and even today Bachchan is famous because of the film Sholay. According to sources, earlier Ramesh Sippy offered the role of Jai in Sholay to Shatrughan Sinha. But after Dharmendra’s recommendation, Amitabh Bachchan got this role.

Sholay film completed 50 years
Significantly, the Sholay film was released at the box office in 1975. The film performed so that all the records of earnings were broken. Every character of the film and the name of Ramgarh village became famous. Many big actors including Sanjeev Kumar, Ajmad Khan, Hema Malini worked in the film. The director of this film was Ramesh Sippy and the story of the film was written by Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Even today, this film is as popular as it was 50 years ago.
