An Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to Delhi was forced to return mid-air after the pilot reported a suspected technical issue, according to news agency ANI.

The flight, AI315, operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had departed Hong Kong for Delhi but turned back shortly after take-off due to safety concerns.

This incident comes just days after one of the deadliest aviation tragedies in India’s recent history. On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, en route to London. The aircraft, also a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, went down in a residential area near B.J. Medical College, killing 241 out of the 242 people on board. Among the victims were former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and dozens of international travellers. The crash also claimed the lives of at least 38 people on the ground, bringing the total death toll close to 280.
