The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actor Mukul Dev, whose death has sparked widespread speculation regarding its cause. Many have suggested that he was battling depression, but his brother, Rahul Dev, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his passing.
In a recent interview, Rahul disclosed that Mukul's demise was primarily due to poor dietary habits rather than mental health issues. He shared, "Mukul spent eight and a half days in the ICU. His health deteriorated because he neglected his eating habits. In the final days, he completely stopped eating. While he did feel isolated and lost interest in life, it was not depression that led to his death. The reality of his loss is only now settling in, and I know the pain will only grow deeper."
Rahul recounted how Mukul relocated to Delhi in 2019 to care for their father, who passed away that same year. Tragically, their mother also died in 2023, which led Mukul to withdraw into himself and focus on writing.
According to Rahul, Mukul's self-care declined significantly, and he deeply missed his daughter. The loneliness they both experienced exacerbated their struggles.
Despite rumors suggesting that Mukul was suffering from depression, Rahul firmly dismissed these claims. He questioned the motives of those who spoke out, stating, "Those who are commenting now were not even in contact with him. They claim he was unfit, but he participated in half-marathons. Yes, he gained weight, but that happens when someone stops caring for themselves. Who really maintained contact with him from 2019 to 2024? Did they visit him in the hospital or attend his prayer meeting?"
Rahul expressed his desire for people to remember Mukul as a thoughtful and intelligent person, saying, "I want to remember Mukul not as someone who faded away, but as the charming, intelligent, and sensitive individual he truly was."
Mukul Dev passed away on May 23 in New Delhi, where his last rites were conducted. He appeared in popular films such as 'Son of Sardaar,' 'Yamla Pagla Deewana,' 'R… or Rajkumar,' and 'Jai Ho.' Additionally, he was featured in television shows like 'Gharwali Uparwali,' 'Kasshish,' 'Ssshhhh…,' 'Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan,' and 'Phir Koi Hai.' His final film, 'Son of Sardaar 2,' is yet to be released.
