Reports suggest that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in talks with Sanju Samson regarding a potential move to replace MS Dhoni. There are strong speculations that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain could make a significant switch to CSK ahead of IPL 2026. Samson has spent eight of his ten IPL seasons with the Royals and has been leading the team since 2021.

The rumor mill has been active on social media regarding Sanju's possible exit from the Rajasthan Royals, where he is their highest-paid player, having joined the franchise at just 18 years old. However, the Royals faced a disappointing IPL 2025 season, during which Sanju missed seven matches, leading to Riyan Parag stepping in as captain during his absence.

There were whispers of a rift between Samson and mentor Rahul Dravid, although Dravid has denied these claims. With emerging talents like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag, questions about Sanju's position in the team have arisen.

The speculation intensified when Sanju's agent, Prashobh Sudevan, 'liked' a social media post hinting at a move to CSK. While this action does not confirm any transfer, it has certainly fueled discussions among fans.

Should CSK secure Sanju's services, he could either open the batting or play at No. 3, forming a formidable partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ayush Mhatre. Additionally, he might take on wicketkeeping responsibilities, a role long held by MS Dhoni.

It remains unclear if he would be named captain. CSK appointed Ruturaj as captain for IPL 2025, but he managed to win only one out of five matches. Thus, if Sanju joins the team, he could also be considered a candidate for leadership.
