All flights from a major UK airport were temporarily suspended this afternoon after an aircraft suffered technical difficulties upon landing. Aberdeen Airport said that it was working "to remove the aircraft from the runway" before giving the green light for from the site.

Flight enthusiasts had noted that the aircraft had circled the airport several times as the fault was assessed whilst emergency vehicles gathered on the runway. A spokesperson for told the Daily Express: "At approximately 16:20 a chartered Loganair aircraft reported a technical difficulty on arrival. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers disembarked.

"We are in the process of working with the airline team to remove the aircraft from the runway. Until then all flights to and from the airport are temporarily suspended and passengers are advised to contact their airline for specific flight information."

They later updated: "All operations have now resumed at Aberdeen Airport following the earlier incident."

A statement on the airport's website iniitally said: "Flights to and from Aberdeen Airport are temporarily suspended due to an aircraft which reported a technical difficulty on landing. The aircraft landed safely and will be towed from the runway.

"We will provide updates as soon as they are available."

The Logan Air flight had departed from Stavanger in Norway earlier this afternoon although it is not known how many people were on board.

It departed at 3.41pm UK time and was due to land roughly 65 minutes later.

A Loganair spokesperson said: "We can confirm there was a technical event involving one of Loganair's aircraft shortly after landing at Aberdeen Airport today.

"All passengers and crew have disembarked safely, and the aircraft has been taken to the Loganair hangar for inspection by the engineering team at the airport."

Aberdeen Airport's departures board now shows several flights cancelled, with passengers urged to check flight details before setting off for the airport and told to contact the airlines directly for more information.

The issue could also affect flights heading towards Aberdeen, with fights from Amsterdam and London Heathrow and Manchester already cancelled and those not yet airborne showing as "scheduled".
