Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has published data on lake water supply as of 6 am on June 17. The reports show that water levels in Mumbai's seven lakes, crucial for the city's drinking water, increased on Tuesday because of the heavy rainfall. The lakes of Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi hold a combined capacity of 14.47 lakh million litres.

As of Tuesday morning, the lakes contained a total useful water volume of 1,41,511 million litres, representing 9.78% of their full capacity. This represented a rise from 8.60% on Monday and 8.69% on Sunday, easing worries about insufficient water levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ongoing rainfall in the area, probably elevating the water levels even more.

In the past 24 hours, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, and Tansa generated a total useful water content of 85,227 million litres, which is 12.27% of their overall capacity, an increase from 10.11% the day before. Important rainfall figures are: Upper Vaitarna 23 mm, Modak Sagar 87 mm, Tansa 62 mm, Middle Vaitarna 80 mm, Bhatsa 61 mm, Vihar 101 mm, and Tulsi 162 mm.

The IMD forecasts rainfall in Mumbai through June 22, featuring moderate rain today and tomorrow, with isolated heavy showers anticipated on June 19, followed by additional moderate rain on June 20. On Monday, an orange alert was announced because of intense rainfall leading to extensive waterlogging and interruptions. From 8 am to 6 pm, different areas experienced considerable rainfall, with Santacruz East topping the list at 93 mm, trailed closely by Bandra Kurla Complex and Bandra West.
