"It helps to maintain humidity and keep the berries from losing moisture and becoming dry." She said that: "they should last up to five to seven days." But before stowing away the strawberries, Foster suggests transitioning them from their original packaging to another vessel, keeping them whole and unwashed.
A glass jar is her preferred choice given its superior breathability compared to plastic which can entrap moisture, potentially leading to mould and hastened deterioration.
When sealing the container, she advocates for leaving it only partially closed to prevent moisture build-up and recommends laying some paper towels inside it to soak up any additional dampness.
Storing strawberries in a single layer will help protect these sensitive fruits from getting squashed, reports .
However, if you intend to consume strawberries on the day of purchase, there's no necessity to refrigerate them as they are most flavoursome at room temperature, hence they can be left out on the kitchen worktop.
