DGCA's Findings on Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Mumbai: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Tuesday that their recent evaluations found no significant safety issues with Air India's fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Following discussions with senior Air India officials, the aviation authority confirmed that their surveillance did not uncover any major safety concerns regarding the airline's Boeing 787 aircraft.

In a statement, the DGCA noted, "The recent surveillance conducted on Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet did not reveal any major safety concerns. The aircraft and associated maintenance systems were found to be compliant with existing safety standards."

Air India operates a total of 33 Boeing 787-8/9 planes, and the DGCA reported that 24 of these aircraft have successfully undergone an "enhanced safety inspection."

The review by the DGCA also included an assessment of recent operational data, particularly focusing on Air India’s wide-body operations involving the Boeing 787.

Last week, the DGCA mandated enhanced safety inspections for Air India’s Boeing 787-8/9 fleet following a tragic incident involving a London-bound flight that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.

As a precautionary measure, the DGCA instructed Air India to implement additional maintenance protocols for the Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines immediately, in collaboration with the DGCA's regional offices.

These protocols include a one-time pre-departure check for flights from India starting June 15, inspections of fuel parameter monitoring systems, and checks on cabin air compressors and related systems.

Furthermore, Air India is required to conduct tests on the electronic engine control system, operational tests on engine fuel-driven actuators, and checks on the oil system. The airline must also verify the serviceability of the hydraulic system, review take-off parameters, and incorporate a 'Flight Control Inspection' during transit inspections until further notice.
