Sitaare Zameen Par OTT: Aamir Khan is again in the headlines for his new film Sitare Zameen Par. He has turned down a huge offer from Amazon Prime Video, which was for the digital release of his film. Aamir believes that early OTT release is reducing the audience in theaters. Let's know the full details of this news and why Aamir took such a big decision.
Rejected Amazon's big offer?
Aamir Khan turned down an offer of Rs 120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the digital release of Sitare Zameen Par. This news was given by trade analyst Komal Nahata. Earlier, Netflix had also given an attractive offer for this film, but Aamir turned it down as well. This decision of Aamir has become a topic of discussion in Bollywood. He has made up his mind to give priority to theaters and is against early release on OTT.
Aamir believes that watching movies in theaters is a different fun. Nowadays films come on OTT only a few weeks after release, due to which people go less to theaters. Aamir said, "I trust theaters and my audience. If the film is good, people will definitely come to watch it on the big screen." Citing the example of Laal Singh Chaddha, he said that a film with a weak performance in theaters gets the same response on OTT. Aamir wants Sitare Zameen Par to run in theaters for at least eight weeks so that the audience turns to theaters.
Pay-per-view plan on YouTube
Aamir has chosen a new path by bypassing OTT platforms. He is planning to release Sitare Zameen Par on YouTube through a pay-per-view model after its theatrical release. This means that the audience will have to pay once to watch the film, like a digital movie ticket. This will give Aamir complete control over the release date and price. This is a new experiment in Bollywood, which can also open the way for small and independent filmmakers.
Netflix's offer of 125 crores
Before Amazon, Netflix also offered 50-60 crores for the digital rights of Sitare Zameen Par, which was later increased to 125 crores. This offer could have been included in Bollywood's third-biggest OTT deal to date, but Aamir turned it down as well. This offer from Netflix was an attempt to stop Aamir's YouTube pay-per-view model, but Aamir remained firm on his decision.
