Mumbai: Ola, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, has announced a big change for its drivers across India. The company has started a zero-commission model, which means drivers will now keep 100 percent of the fare from every ride they complete.

This new system is now working across the country. It includes all types of rides — autos, bikes, and cabs. Earlier, Ola used to take a percentage of the driver’s fare as commission. Now, that has completely stopped.

Under this model, drivers can choose a plan, and Ola will not take any part of their fare. There are no limits on how many rides they can take or how much they can earn.

Ola started this change step by step — first with Ola Autos, then with Ola Bikes, and now with Ola Cabs. The company says this move shows its strong support for driver-partners.

A spokesperson from Ola said, “Drivers are the backbone of the mobility system. Giving them full control of their earnings helps create a stronger and more stable network.”

Experts say this change could improve driver incomes by around 30 percent, adding up to Rs 1.36 lakh more per driver every year. This can lead to more spending by drivers on housing, education, food, and healthcare, which also helps local shops and businesses.

A report by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) supports this view. It says open and fair models, like Ola’s zero commission plan, could grow India’s economy and improve life for drivers.

India’s ride-hailing market is growing fast. By 2029, it is expected to serve over 380 million users and earn over $11.6 billion. But current models still have problems — like high commissions, poor service, and low driver earnings.

Ola’s new step could change the game and make ride-hailing better for both drivers and riders.
