Squid Game's creator has hinted at what's on the way for the Front Man in season three.
The third season is set to conclude 's hit South Korean series , with Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) still fighting against the powers that be.
In the previous season, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) cunningly gained Gi-hun's trust by masquerading as Young-il, also known as Player 001, to challenge his hopeful outlook.
After a thwarted rebellion, the Front Man shockingly killed his best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), shattering Gi-hun.
Squid Game's creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk has now shed light on what lies ahead for Front Man in the show's climactic third series.
"Front Man is relentless in pushing Gi-hun to his breaking point," he revealed.
"He wants to tear down all his beliefs about being able to change the world, which, to him, seem foolish, ridiculous, and naive.
"He firmly believes the world will never change and that it will always favor the 'haves' over the have-nots.
"To him, the history of mankind has always been a cycle of those who rule and those who obey.
"In season three, he sees Gi-hun's transformation as a reflection of his own, thinking, 'You're feeling exactly what I felt during the game, and you've lost all hope in people."
"'You lost faith in yourself, and in the humanity within you.'"
Dong-Hyuk further hinted: "But Gi-hun still has some surprises to throw Front Man's way."
Offering insight into Gi-hun's state of mind at the start of series three, Dong-hyuk noted: "He is in utter despair after losing everything and watching all his efforts go in vain."
"A huge sense of guilt and failure weighs heavily on him. With his spirit broken and his confidence shattered, Gi-hun appears to have abandoned all hope."
So what will Gi-hun's next move be as the Front Man continues to try and break his spirit?
Squid Game season 3 premieres on Friday, June 27, on Netflix.
