DU has launched the Jai Hind scheme to provide skill training to school students (class 9th to 12th) from Scheduled Tribes, especially those coming from remote areas. Its aim is to provide students with the ability to acquire sustainable livelihood. To ensure better access to higher education to tribal students, DU will also provide detailed information about the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

DU: Delhi University (DU) has started a new initiative for Scheduled Tribe students. DU has launched a new scheme called Tribal Immersive Holistic Intervention for Novel Development (Jai Hind). The Jai Hind scheme was launched on Wednesday and during this time, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Vineet Joshi was the chief guest and the program was presided over by DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh. Giving information about the scheme, the Vice Chancellor said that its objective is to provide skill training to school students (from class 9th to class 12th) belonging to Scheduled Tribes, especially those coming from remote areas, so that they can acquire the ability to achieve a sustainable livelihood.

Not only this, detailed information will also be given about the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to prepare the students of the tribal category for better access to higher education. This scheme has been implemented for the first time for two weeks from 17 June 2025. In this, 25 students (12 girls and 13 boys) from four government schools of Ukhrul district of Manipur have been selected on the basis of merit. All these students belong to the Tangkhul Naga tribe, which is a Scheduled Tribe.

Tribal children from remote areas will benefit

While addressing the students selected for the scheme, Vineet Joshi said that the Jai Hind scheme is a golden opportunity for such children. Tribal children will get a chance to know Delhi as well as Delhi University. He said that my first posting as an officer was in Manipur and he has been the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district. I am aware of the problems of Manipur. Now the students of Scheduled Tribes will learn a lot of new things from Delhi University which will help in improving their lives. Admission in all the central universities of the country is done through CUET only.

Giving information about the Prime Minister Vidyalakshmi Yojana, he said that the objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students for higher education. Financially weak students can pursue higher education without any financial hindrance through this scheme. Giving detailed information about the Jai Hind scheme, DU's Dean Academic Professor K Ratnabali said that the students will be given the skill of fish farming in artificial containers and making fish feed.
