On June 12, a devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed the lives of many, leaving only one survivor. Vishwas Ramesh Kumar was seen carrying the body of his brother, Ajay Ramesh, who was also on the ill-fated flight. A poignant video captured Vishwas, who is recovering from severe burns, as he supported his brother's funeral procession while family and mourners gathered in Diu for the last rites.
Previously, Vishwas was filmed escaping the burning wreckage after the aircraft collided with the BJ Medical College hostel. He sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized but has since been discharged from the civil hospital as his condition stabilized.
The remains of seven other victims from the crash were also transported to Diu for their funerals. On Tuesday, Captain Sumit Sabharwal, senior crew member Aparna Mahadik, and crew member Maithili Patil were laid to rest in their hometowns of Mumbai, Raigad, and Goregaon, respectively.
Authorities reported on Wednesday that DNA testing has confirmed the identities of 190 victims from the tragic incident, with 159 bodies already returned to their families. The Air India flight AI-171, which was en route to London with 242 passengers, crashed just minutes after takeoff, resulting in the loss of all aboard except for one survivor, along with at least 32 fatalities on the ground. Among the deceased was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, whose funeral was conducted with full state honors on Monday.
