Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad, has been discharged from the city's Civil Hospital.

Officials confirmed that Vishwas, a 40-year-old businessman based in Leicester, was released on Tuesday evening after receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

According to Dr Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, 'Following his recovery, we gave discharge to Vishwas at 7.30 pm on Tuesday and his brother's mortal remains were also handed over to the family after a DNA match', news agency PTI reported.

Vishwas' brother, Ajay, who was also on board the ill-fated flight, died in the crash. The siblings, originally from Diu, were on their way back to London after spending time with family in the union territory.

PM Modi Met Crash Survivor at Hospital

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vishwas at the Civil Hospital a day after the crash. During the visit, he enquired about Vishwas' health and recovery.

Speaking earlier to Doordarshan, Vishwas described the terrifying moments after the aircraft stalled moments into its journey. 'Luckily, the portion of the plane where I was seated fell on the ground floor of the hostel premises after the plane crash landed. When I saw that the door of the plane was broken, I told myself that I can try and get out. Eventually, I came out of the plane,' he recounted.

He added that he had been seated in seat 11A, located near the emergency exit on the left side of the aircraft.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was operating a nine-hour flight to London's Gatwick Airport when it crashed shortly after take-off at 1:39 pm on June 12 from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers, came down on the campus of a medical college in the city. In video footage captured by a local resident, Vishwas was seen walking towards an ambulance, visibly injured, but conscious.

Authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the tragic crash.
