Temperatures are across the UK over the final part of June. The latest maps from WX Charts show the mercury hitting a whopping 38C in some areas.

According to the maps, six parts of the nation will be hit by 38C heat at 6pm on Monday, June 30. Meanwhile, there will be widespread temperatures of across many other areas of the UK. The South West of England will see highs of around 24C on June 30, while areas of Scotland will hit 29C. In Wales, the Mercury will hit 32C just north of Cardiff.

The hottest areas on the maps include Watford, Northampton, , Cambridge, Peterborough and Maidstone. The maps also show temperatures of 37C in Oxford, Gloucester and Worcester.

According to the Met Office long-term UK forecast, which runs from Monday, June 23 until Wednesday, July 2, temperatures will remain "above average across parts of the east and southeast" over the period.

It adds: "Longer drier spells are more likely farther to the south and east, under the influence of higher pressure. Here, there is the chance of occasional very warm or hot spells, as south or southwesterly winds allow brief bursts of hotter air to encroach from the continent."

The latest forecast comes after deputy chief meteorologist Tony Wisson confirmed that parts of the UK would hit the official heatwave threshold by Saturday.

The forecaster says the heatwave threshold is met when an area records "a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold". The threshold varies by UK county.

Wisson said: "By the beginning of the weekend, we could very well be meeting heatwave thresholds in places. While the warmest temperatures are likely across London and the east of England, by Saturday heatwave thresholds could be reached across much of the Midlands, low-lying areas bordering the Peak District and even parts of east Wales."

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency issued a yellow health alert for the Midlands, South and East England, Yorkshire and Humber, and London. It is in place until 6pm on Sunday, June 22.
