The Repair Shop On The Road was back on TV screens on Wednesday (18th June) with a new episode, as the experts exited the barn and set off on a new adventure.

The programme sees the team meet people across the country who are in posession of historical treasures and sentimental objects, and looking for help with keeping them in top condition.

Wednesday's instalment saw Lucia Scalisi and Dominic Chinea head to Glasgow, with fellow expert Will Kirk later joining them.

Lucia headed to meet Kaming, a member of Glasgow's Hakka Chinese community, who was looking for help with resorting a Chinese unicorn head that needed some care.

Made of bamboo and paper, the fragile mask plays a significant role in celebrations in the community.

However, years of dancing had left the mask looking slightly worn, with its horn specifically needing some attention.

Kaming revealed he is the last person he knows with the ability to perform the traditional dance associated with the unicorn mask and therefore wanted it restored so he could hopefully teach generations to come the dance, before it is lost forever.

It's safe to say Lucia had a big job on her hands which quickly proved not to be straightforward. She was left having to contend with unfamiliar materials while aiming to restore the mask to a standard which would allow it to be used for years to come.

The art restorer worked her magic and managed to completely transform the mask, leaving Kaming understandably stunned once it was unveiled.

"Are you looking forward to seeing it?" Lucia asked him. The duo both agreed they were "very excited" to see the finished project.

After Lucia moved the cloth, Kaming gasped and covered his mouth. He exclaimed: "Just speechless! Speechless. It's amazing."

He then added: "It's a very big difference, especially the actual front here. Looking shiny."

Lucia told him: "Everything about it is exquisitely beautiful. The symbolism on it is incredible.

"And, I think that it will do a very good job for your community centre for years to come. And now I think it's your turn to keep your side of the deal!"

Lucia was invited to a community centre to watch Kaming perform the dance associated with the unicorn mask. She admitted she was "blown away" by the performance in sweet scenes.

"I actually don't know what to say, I am truly blown away to have that lovely unicorn do the unicorn dance. It was energetic, it was very powerful. It was wonderful!" she said.

Meanwhile, Kaming said of the newly restored mask: "It means a lot to the Chinese community to have it fixed because it represents a whole lot to them."

The Repair Shop On The Road airs on BBC One on Wednesdays at 8pm. Episodes are also available to watch iPlayer.
