ChatGPT available on WhatsApp has received a major update. Now users will be able to avail not only text chat but also the facility of generating images on this platform. In December 2024, OpenAI launched ChatGPT on WhatsApp through a custom phone number. Now after four months, the feature of image generation has also been added after image and voice input.

ChatGPT will now create images on WhatsApp.

OpenAI announced this feature on X (formerly Twitter). Now users can ask ChatGPT to create images through WhatsApp, although the company has not given technical details, it is likely that this feature is based on the GPT-4o model, the same model that generates images in websites, desktop and mobile apps.

In our test, it was found that ChatGPT takes about two minutes to generate images and the quality is the same as what is available on the website and app. If a user has not linked their OpenAI account to WhatsApp, they will only be allowed to generate one image every 24 hours.

Other features available

ChatGPT can not only create images, but it can also answer text-based questions, create content, analyze images, and reply to voice notes (as text replies). However, it still cannot do web browsing, i.e., it cannot provide information on recent or live events.

How to use it?

Users can save the number +1-800-242-8478 (1-800-ChatGPT) to access ChatGPT on WhatsApp. Then open WhatsApp and refresh the contact list and ChatGPT will be visible.
