Sunjay Kapur, a well-known industrialist and former spouse of actress Karisma Kapoor, has died in London at the age of 53. His unexpected passing has left his friends and family in shock. The funeral is scheduled to take place in Delhi today, following delays attributed to citizenship complications. Karisma Kapoor, who shares two children with Sunjay, was seen heading to Delhi with her children to pay her respects.
Accompanying her were her sister Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, who were photographed at the Mumbai airport. Sunjay and Karisma were married in 2003 and divorced in 2016, but they maintained a cooperative parenting relationship.
The delay in the funeral arrangements was due to complications surrounding citizenship. Reports indicate that the repatriation process required additional documentation and approvals before his body could be returned to India.
A prayer meeting is set for June 22 at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi from 4 to 5 PM.
Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar and a significant figure in the automotive sector. He also served as the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, overseeing operations in several states and Union Territories.
In his personal life, Sunjay was initially married to designer Nandita Mahtani, but their marriage lasted only two years. Following his divorce from Karisma, he married model Priya Sachdev, and they welcomed a son shortly thereafter.
Just hours before his passing, Sunjay expressed his condolences on social media regarding a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, stating, "Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash."
