Kovid’s new variant Nimbus (nb.1.8.1) causes unbearable pain in the throat, which is being called ‘Razor Blade Throat’. This variant is spreading rapidly and caution is necessary for rescue.
Razor Blade Throat: The new variant of the corona virus NB.1.8.1 has started spreading rapidly in the US. It is being called Nimbus in common language. About 37% of the Kovid cases that surfaced in the first two weeks of June 2025 are to this variant. Although its symptoms are not serious, the throat pain caused by it is said to be extremely unbearable. For this reason, it is being called “Razor Blade Throat”.
According to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, people infected with this variant have such a sharp pain in the throat as if someone has put a razor blade around the neck. Patients said that they have a lot of trouble speaking, eating and drinking water. On swallowing, it feels as if the broken glass is being lowered from the neck. Although there has been a sore throat in Kovid before, this pain in Nimbus variants is much more acute and disturbing.
Experts believe that normal drugs like paracetamol or ibuprofen can be taken to reduce this excessive throat pain. They provide relief in swelling and pain. Apart from this, you can also do this work-
It is advisable to gargle with hot salt water, which reduces the amount of virus.
Menthol or benzocain -rich logs ie sucking tablets temporarily numb the throat.
Drinking hot tea, soup or water can also provide a lot of relief.
It is also beneficial to maintain moisture in the room using humidifier.
Although in most cases the symptoms of the Nimbus variants are mild, but if the symptoms persist for a long time or start deteriorating, such as: persistent fever (more than 100 ° F), difficulty in breathing, chest heaviness or tightness. The throat becomes so bad that if you cannot swallow water, contact the doctor immediately.
This variant can become a greater risk for the elderly, pregnant women, and people who are already suffering from serious diseases. Therefore, they should stay away from the crowd and take full vigilance.
Kovid’s old rescue rules are effective to avoid Nimbus variants:
Use masks, especially in crowds or closed places.
Wash hands again and again.
Keep distance from sick people.
Take all the dose of the covid vaccine.
Although NB.1.8.1 or Nimbus variant is not fatal, its effect on the throat can make people very upset. If care is taken in time and treatment is started as soon as the symptoms are seen, then this infection can be easily controlled. Healthy habits, regular checkups and awareness are the strongest shield to prevent this variant.
