While most graduates walk up to the stage with a formal handshake and a smile, one Indian-origin student decided to make his big moment unforgettable — with some full-on bhangra moves.

A now-viral video posted by Instagram user @brownboyjeet shows the celebratory moment at the University of Washington Bothell, where student Arijeet Singh went to collect his certificate — but didn’t just walk off like everyone else. Dressed in the classic black graduation robe paired with a purple head cover, Singh broke into energetic desi dance moves right on stage, leaving the crowd delighted and his professors mildly stunned.

Dignitaries looked on from the decorated stage along with classmates lined up behind him. He performed a quick, joyous bhangra — bringing alive the spirit of Punjab in the US. He appeared to not just celebrate a degree, but the beauty of his culture and home.

The video carried the caption: “POV: you turned up at grad.”

It’s now racking up thousands of views and likes for all the right reasons. The internet, as expected, have loved it.

Netizens react to viral video

In the comments, people congratulated him on his academic achievement and praised the way he marked his graduation day with traditional dance.

“Congrats. Lemme know if you need some Bhangra lessons,” one user commented. “I’m not gonna lie bro, this was so tuff,” another wrote, nodding to the confidence and joy it takes to bring traditional moves to a Western stage.

As Singh took bhangra from Punjab to Washington, his video went viral, racking up more than 20,000 views.
