New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, is set to make Bungalow No. 5 on Sunehri Bagh Road his new official residence. He has begun the moving process coinciding with his birthday on Thursday, with plans to fully relocate before the upcoming Parliament session, according to party insiders.

Sources indicate that Gandhi has accepted the bungalow as his official address and has started transferring his belongings.

He is expected to take up residence there shortly, ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which starts on July 21.

Last year, it was reported that Gandhi was offered this bungalow, and he had been considering the offer.

Previously, Gandhi resided at 12 Tughlaq Lane since becoming an MP, but he vacated that property after his disqualification from the Lok Sabha in 2023 due to a defamation conviction.

Following that, he temporarily moved into his mother Sonia Gandhi's residence at 10 Janpath and continued living there even after his disqualification was lifted.

As the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi is entitled to a Type 8 bungalow, equivalent to the rank of a Cabinet minister.

The Sunehri Bagh residence was formerly occupied by A. Narayanaswamy, a Karnataka BJP leader who served as Minister of State for Social Justice in the Modi government from 2021 to 2024.
