Mumbai Mumbai:After expressing concern about the maintenance issues reported by Air India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Tuesday that “no major security concern came out” under the recent supervision on the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet “. The aviation regulator said that the aircraft and maintenance systems were found to be in line with the current security standards. Of the 33 Boeing 787-8/9 fleet, four aircraft are currently undergoing major checks on various maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) features.

“By 1500 pm on 17 June 2025, a total of 24 aircraft have successfully completed the required investigation. Today there are plans to complete 2 additional aircraft, while tomorrow 1 more aircraft will be tested. The remaining 6 aircraft include 2 aircraft, currently AOG,” DGCA said. Both of these will be investigated after the announcement of serviceability and before coming back to service. The aviation regulator said that the remaining 4 aircraft currently under MRO would have to undergo compulsory investigation before freeing from the respective maintenance hangers.

The DGCA held a high -level meeting with senior officials of Air India and Air India Express, currently operating more than 1,000 flights per day in domestic and international areas. The meeting was called to review the operations of the airlines and to ensure continuous compliance with security and passenger service regulations. This advised the airline to strengthen engineering, operating, strengthen internal coordination in ground handling units and ensure availability of adequate spare to reduce the delay of passengers and strictly follow the regulations.

Recently, the impact on the airspace, especially on the Iranian airspace, was also reviewed. Closure has led to changes, delays and cancellations in flights. Operators have been asked to adopt an alternative routing strategy to ensure timely communication with passengers and crew and reduce disruption. The DGCA said, “Operators were reminded of their obligations under the relevant civil aviation requirement section 3 Series M Part IV and V, so that passengers could be informed in advance about delay and cancellation. Emphasis was laid on the proliferation of information through effective passenger facilities and all available channels.” The regulator has recommended the implementation of more systematic and real-time defect reporting mechanisms to receive timely updates to operational and safety-intelligent departments. This is expected to improve overall decision making and reduce downstream.
