MIT's research on this has revealed surprising effects.
The rapidly increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has changed the ways of studying and working to a great extent. Especially Open I's ChatGPT, which is being used by millions of people around the world for their writing and other knowledge. At the same time, with the increasing use of ChatGPT, questions are also coming up whether this easy way of AI is weakening our brain. To find the answer to this question, researchers from MIT Massachusetts Institute of Technology have recently done a study. So let us tell you today what shocking truth has come out about AI in this research of MIT.
What is MIT's research?
This research has been done by a team of researchers from MIT Media Lab, Wellesley College and MassArt. In this study, 54 students from several universities in Boston were divided into three groups.
-This was the first LLM group in which students used Chat GPT to write essays.
- Apart from this, the second group was divided into search engine group. Students of this group used only things like Google search to write essays.
-After this, the third group was divided into brain only group. Whose students wrote it themselves without taking help of any help like chat or GPT.
During this research, the brain activities of the participants were monitored using electroencephalogram technology. In which it was observed how the brain is working. Also, how active the brain is and how much information the brain of the people using Chat GPT is able to remember.
What was the result of the research
The study found that the students who relied only on chat GPT had the least brain activity. In comparison to the students who used chat GPT, the brain of those who wrote essays on their own without any technology was the most active. The condition of the students who used search engines was in between these two.
Low engagement with your own content
In this research, when students were asked to repeat their own essay or quote some part of it, the students who used Chat GPT forgot their essay the most. They felt less connected to the content written by them. After this, the researchers called it cognitive off loading, which means putting the work of the brain on AI.
Essays written using ChatGPT flow better but lack depth
MIT's research found that the structure, grammar and flow of the essay written using ChatGPT was quite good. But that essay lacked original diversity and depth. On the other hand, those in the brain-only group who wrote with their mind were considered to have more critical thinking and full diverse vocabulary.
AI's help is weakening the brain
The biggest finding of this research done by MIT was that AI tools like ChatGPT provide us with many facilities. But excessive dependence on them is harming our brain's activity, memory and creativity. Especially in the education sector, when the thinking ability of students should be developed during study time, at that time their thinking ability is getting reduced even more due to the use of ChatGPT.
