Navi Mumbai: Kharghar Police has booked a 19-year-old engineering student for allegedly causing a fatal accident involving a speeding Mercedes-Benz car near the Hiranandani Bridge in Kharghar on the night of Wednesday, resulting in the death of a woman and serious injuries to her husband. The 19 year old driver has been identified as Tithi Singh, a resident of New Panvel.

The deceased lady has been identified as Rekha Yadav (50) and her husband Gopal Dattu Yadav (54), residents of Panvel.

The incident occurred at around 8.45pm on the Sion-Panvel Road heading towards Panvel, when the car allegedly being driven recklessly at high speed, rammed into a scooter from behind.

The impact flung both riders off the two-wheeler, leading to the woman’s death on the spot due to severe head injuries. Her husband sustained multiple injuries to his legs, hands, and face, and was rushed to MGM Hospital for medical treatment.

According to Senior Inspector Dipak Surve, “The teenager had come to Belapur to visit her friend and was returning home to Panvel when the accident took place. Further investigation is underway.”

Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness statements to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash. Police have registered a case under sections of BNS and Motor Vehicle Act.
