Mumbai: In a major security breach at IIT Powai (IIT Bombay), a 22-year-old man managed to enter the high-security campus and attend a lecture despite not being a student. The incident came to light when the youth was found sitting inside a lecture hall, having bypassed all security checks. He was later handed over to Powai Police by the institute's security staff.

The intruder has been identified as Bilal Ahmed Fayyaz Ahmed Teli, a resident of Mangalore, Karnataka. Following preliminary questioning, the Powai Police issued a notice to him and asked him to appear again for further inquiry. However, the motive behind his unauthorized entry and repeated presence on campus remains unclear.

According to Powai Police, the incident was officially reported on June 17, 2025. Earlier, on June 4, Shilpa Kotikal from the IIT Credit Department had raised an alert that an unidentified man had entered her office premises without authorization. When asked to show his identity card, the individual fled. She shared CCTV images of the suspect with security personnel, who launched a search but could not locate him at the time.

On June 17 at around 4 PM, Kotikal again contacted the IIT Vigilance Department, informing them that the same unidentified person had been spotted inside Lecture Hall LH-101 and was attending a class. The IIT Quick Response Team (QRT) reached the lecture hall and detained the individual on the spot.

During questioning, Bilal admitted that he was not an IIT student and had been illegally staying in various hostels on campus between June 2 and June 7, and again from June 10 onwards. He was subsequently handed over to Powai Police. Further investigation is underway to determine his motive and assess whether he posed any security threat.
