Contrary to what some may assume due to the celebration of International Yoga Day, banks across India will remain open today, Saturday, June 21, 2025, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar. Since this Saturday is the third Saturday of the month, it is a regular working day for banks.

As per RBI norms, bank branches remain closed on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. However, they operate normally on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, unless there is an official public holiday declared by state or central authorities.

No Bank Holiday For Yoga Day

Although International Yoga Day is being celebrated today across the nation, it is not marked as an official bank holiday. The RBI has not declared June 21, 2025, as a non-working day for financial institutions, which means all scheduled banking operations and customer services will be available during regular working hours.

Upcoming Bank Closures

For those planning financial tasks, it is useful to keep an eye on the next scheduled bank closures. Banks will remain shut on Sunday, June 22, as per the weekend schedule. Additionally, Friday, June 27, will see bank closures in Odisha and Manipur due to regional festivals Ratha Yatra and Kang (Rathajatra), respectively.

Bank Holiday Calendar In June

Apart from weekends, banks observe holidays for national events, religious festivals, and regional celebrations, which differ across states. Here are the notable closures for June 2025:

  • June 7 (Saturday) – Bakrid (Id-Uz-Zuha): All banks closed nationwide
  • June 11 (Wednesday) – Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti/Saga Dawa: Banks closed in Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim
  • June 27 (Friday) – Ratha Yatra/Kang: Banks closed in Odisha and Manipur
  • June 30 (Monday) – Remna Ni: Observed in Mizoram

Online Banking Remains Unaffected

Even during branch closures, customers can continue using digital banking platforms. Online services, including NEFT, RTGS, fund transfers, and account-related requests, remain fully operational. Facilities involving credit/debit cards, cheque book applications, and locker service requests can also be accessed via net banking or mobile apps.
