Parma have sent a heart-warming message to Arsenal after confirming the signing of Mikel Arteta's 'right-hand man'. The Serie A outfit announced on Thursday (June 19) that Carlos Cuesta, the Gunners' assistant manager, has taken up the vacant managers position at the club—becoming the second-youngest coach in the league's history at just 29-years-old.

It was only in April when reports claimed Cuesta, as well as other members of Arteta's backroom staff, had signed new contracts valid until 2027. Now, less than two months later, a 'vital' cog in the machine has now departed.

The Spaniard has brought an end to five-years at Arsenal where he won two FA Community Shields. The first in 2020 after beating Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, and the other by edging Manchester City in 2023.

He flew to Italy on Wednesday to finalise his appointment, replacing Cristian Chivu who left for Inter Milan earlier this summer.

Just a day after unveiling Cuesta as their new 'man at the helm', the Italian club opted to reassure Arsenal fans. In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, they wrote: "Don't worry Arsenal, we'll take good care of him" followed by a smiley sunglasses emoji.

Gunners fans flooded the replies with well wishes, with one saying: "Wish him well". While another added: "I'll buy your jersey, wishing you all the best." "Give him time and he will flourish with you", "Best of luck to him and you", "Treat him well" and "Amazing choice, no doubt you'll be a great match" were other nice messages sent in reply.

In an emotional message confirming his departure on Instagram, Cuesta wrote: "After five beautiful years it’s hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and values. The only thing I’ve ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day.

"I was inspired by the culture that was created, by the hunger of every person of the organisation and by the unity that we had in any situation that we had to face. It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match.

"Because of the quality of its people, I’m convinced that the best moments for this football club are still yet to come. Enjoy the journey, because it is a very exciting one. Thank you @arsenal."

Cuesta also paid tribute to Arteta: "And then, to the person that made it happen. Thank you. That’s the only thing I can say.

"Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'. But more than that, thank you for being an incredible coach, an incredible leader, and an even better human being.

"It has been a true privilege to learn from you, to feel your support in any circumstance and to share the ups and downs of the journey always seeing the positive side of it. You’ve taught me a lot, and I will carry it always with me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you."

He follows in the footsteps of his mentor who left a coaching role at Premier League rivals Manchester City, where he worked alongside Pep Guardiola, to take up the North London post in December 2019. Arteta replaced interim manager Freddie Ljungberg, who stood in on a temporary basis following the sacking of current Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.
