Squid Game sensation Park Gyu-young has confessed that the South Korean hit's iconic pink guard outfits are a nightmare to wear.

The series, which sees participants of brutal games executed if they fail by masked enforcers, became an instant Halloween hit after its first season on Netflix.

In the show's gripping second season, viewers delved deeper into the lives of the individuals behind the masks.

Park, who plays defector Kang No-eul in the last two episodes, is on a mission to find her missing daughter.

At the star-studded London premiere for season three, Park revealed the difficulties of acting with her face concealed, reports the Mirror US.

"I know it's a good looking costume, but if you really wear it... it's actually really hot," she disclosed.

"It's kind of hard to breathe and even hard to talk in those masks."

Despite the challenges, Park was eager to don the outfit for her role in what has become Netflix's most successful series ever.

Park enthused: "But, I was really thrilled to wear those costumes because the pink guard is one of the most iconic characters in Squid Game. So I didn't care about it."

She also expressed excitement at contributing to a fresh perspective on the games, offering a contrast to the inaugural season.

In the second season, fans delved deeper into the guards' clandestine organ harvesting plot and unravelled No-eul's poignant past, uncovering as much complexity in the guards' lives as in those of the players.

Park commented on the development: "Even though we saw a lot of pink guards in season one we didn't get to see the human side of them," adding, "We just saw them as very merciless people, but they must have their backstories. They must have their emotions."

Expressing pride in her portrayal, Park said, "So, I was very honoured to be able to play this character, No-eul, in seasons two and three.

"The backstories of the pink guards and the emotional landscape that they hold... I think it was very meaningful that we got a peek into the other side of the system."

Fans are left wondering whether No-eul will survive the games or fall victim as drama unfolds, with everything set to come to light when the series climaxes in its eagerly anticipated final season in mere days.

Squid Game season 3 premieres Friday, 27th June on Netflix.
