The ever-present problem of green algae on fences, an eyesore that can weaken the structure, doesn't have to be a headache anymore. East Coast Fencing has shared the perfect hack for banishing algae without resorting to chemicals, recommending a "natural" yet "effective" solution made of white vinegar and water.

The experts advised taking proper precautions, stating: "To remove algae from fence panels, start by wearing protective gloves and eyewear to shield yourself from any debris or cleaning agents."

They suggest starting with a soft brush or broom to gently dislodge the algae, cautioning against hard-bristled brushes that could harm the wood.

They explained that you need to add one part white vinegar to two parts water into a bucket or bottle, and then apply this to the affected areas.

Allowing the solution to sit for 15 minutes should remedy most cases of algae, but the more persistent growths might need another scrub.

The clean-up involves a simple rinse with a garden hose, revealing spotless fence panels.

The key ingredient, white vinegar, not only stands out as natural algae assassin due to its acidity but is also touted as a disinfectant safe for your garden's ecosystem.

The pros at East Coast Fencing also highlight vinegar's versatility in tackling weeds and cleaning garden furniture, reports the Express.

This handy household staple is widely available at most supermarkets for under £1.

Just bear in mind to dilute the liquid with water; otherwise, it could do more damage than good.

Once they're completely dry, it's crucial to reapply protective treatments to the panels after cleaning to prevent regrowth.
